Are we all turning our TVs off for good?

We've never been so interested in TV shows - but we aren't watching TV. Instead, we're turning to online video - whether it's Netflix or YouTube. But new technology isn't solely responsible – a wider shift in lifestyles is creating a natural path towards hyper-diversification.

Take a quick look at the TV landscape in 2014, and it’s a contradictory picture. On one hand, there are shows that people can’t (or won’t) stop talking about, like Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones. But on the other, many TV licenses aren’t being renewed, and advertising budgets are moving to digital as other platforms desperately seek our attention. From streaming services like Netflix or Amazon TV to the 100 hours of video that are uploaded to YouTube every minute, online video is reaching more American adults aged 18-34 than any cable-television network.
