2023 Expert Outlook on Home and Relationships

How will rising inflation alter dating? What are families prioritising amid the squeeze? Why will ‘be nice to grandma’ be the new mantra across generations? In this part of the 2023 Expert Outlook, we speak to three experts about the social and economic shifts affecting Home and Relationships.

Dr. Amanda Gummer

Dr. Amanda Gummer is a psychologist and the founder of Fundamentally Children, Good Toy Guide, and Dr. Gummer's Good Play Guide. Her work focuses on de-risking product development and marketing through research and consultancy. A specialist in natural research with children, Dr. Gummer provides authentic insights and helps apply those insights to create tangible benefits for clients.

Rebecca Pol

Rebecca Pol is an international marketing and branding specialist with an ultra-niche in Gen Y parents. Her book, Millennial Parenting, was published with the international agency Borgerhoff & Lamberigts after six years of research among Gen Yers with kids. The main message of the book is that marketing towards parents should be inclusive with no gender division because there is no such thing as information that ‘suits’ birthing and non-birthing parents. If we approach all equal, equality can come into sight.

Eliza Filby

Dr. Eliza Filby is a historian of generations and contemporary values. She received her PhD from the University of Warwick and has taught at King’s College London and Renmin Uni in Beijing. She specialises in ‘generational intelligence’, enabling companies to understand generational shifts within consumerism, society, and the workplace. Eliza has worked with companies as varied as the UK’s Royal Household to the Harry Potter franchise. She has delivered speeches to the FT Forum and given evidence to the EU council and UK Parliament. She has written for The Financial Times and The Guardian, has a fortnightly newsletter, and hosts the It’s All Relative podcast.

Riani Kenyon

Riani Kenyon is a caffeinated Zillennial who is hopelessly addicted to The Sims 4 and binge-watches her latest anime obsession when she’s not busy bopping to early 2000’s K-pop. Beyond being a nerd, she has worked on initiatives for the UN Academic Impact and the UK Model WHO, and also explored politics while interning at the House of Commons.
