Facebook wants to stream live sports

Plenty of people discuss sports on social media, but soon you could be streaming them live on these platforms, too. Alongside Verizon and Amazon, Facebook has announced an interest in buying the TV rights for Thursday Night Football in its first public bid to broadcast a live event.

Facebook is already one of the main platforms used to discuss live sports, and these mass participation events lead to a huge amount of user-generated content. Since over 84% of American tablet and smartphone owners use their devices while watching TV, combining the second screen use with the main event seems like the next logical step to bridge the gap between entertainment and social media.
