Social justice demonstrations and a polemic 2020 election have left many people in the US examining what it means to be American, and specifically whether they’re proud of that identity. Canvas8 spoke to Dr. Francesco Duina, sociology professor at Bates College, about patriotism in America today.

Francesco Duina

Francesco Duina is a sociology professor at Bates College whose work lies at the intersections of economic sociology, political sociology, and international political economy. Dr Duina is the author of six books with leading presses, nearly 30 articles, and op-eds in major newspapers. For many years, he was a management consultant and editor with the Monitor Group (now Monitor Deloitte).

Louis Tozer is a senior behavioural analyst on the social sciences team at Canvas8. Trained as a social historian, he has a background in qualitative research, and after an early career spent at the Institute of Philosophy and Social Theory in Belgrade, he made the crossover into cultural insights.
