Through its acquisition of domestic rivals and sheer number of cabs, DiDi has come to dominate China’s ride-hailing market. But after two passengers were murdered in 2018, consumer confidence has been shaken. How is the company addressing security fears to repair its reputation?

Rapidly shifting market forces have made China the largest and most sophisticated digital (and notably mobile) payment market in the world. In turn, these forces are also changing consumer behaviour and pushing the country’s consumers towards a society that no longer uses cash.

Bike-sharing has become popular in China, which tops global tables for the number of such programmes. But, unlike Didi Chuxing and Airbnb, these initiatives don’t constitute true sharing as the bikes are all owned by companies. Consequently, people are treating the bikes with less care.

Despite action from the government, China’s air pollution problem is more prominent than ever. In an effort to tackle the issue, the Chinese population are making lifestyle choices that will minimise their contribution to the problem, from buying electric cars to hopping on a bike.
