Americans are increasingly only hanging out with people who have similar – if not identical – political beliefs as themselves. Amid political uncertainty and with echo chambers on social media fueling the rise of polarization, people are seeking comfort from within their own political groups.

The divide in America’s political landscape has many feeling uneasy about their place in society, and media companies are tapping into this uncertainty to foster a sense of community. Among them is 63red, a platform for conservatives to find news and brands that reflect their worldview.

Research from the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism has found that a third of Britons are actively ignoring the news, partly due to being fed up with Brexit coverage. To tackle this fatigue and lack of trust in the media, some outlets are focusing on more positive journalism.
