China’s ‘ghost cities’ lie emptyThe term ‘ghost town’ typically refers to a run-down settlement devoid of inhabitants. It might once have thrived, but economic or physical hardship led to a draining population and dereliction. But in China, the reverse is often true; many newly built cities start life as ghost towns.
