How are Gen Yers reevaluating ideas of ownership? What do they expect of workplace leaders? Are traditional life milestones still relevant for them? And how are they quietly changing societies?
Gen Yers know that the world is a hard place. That’s why they’re reluctant to take too many risks in the workplace, avoiding career changes and working collaboratively to mitigate risk – and blame.
Gen Y's concept of ownership is vastly different from their parents'. They are much more about accessing goods and services in the here and now, gladly renting or leasing items to meet their needs.
Low wages, fewer opportunities for promotion, and reduced social mobility are fuelling anxiety among Gen Yers, who are comparing themselves against the milestones their elders expect them to reach.
While Gen Zers may be more vocal about the causes that affect them, it’s ultimately Yers who have driven some of the most progressive social movements in #MeToo and #BlackLivesMatter.
