Spatial science and public health academic and policy advisor

Simon Kingham is a professor of human geography at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. His research primarily focuses on the impact of the urban environment on health and wellbeing, especially transport. He also directs the GeoHealth Laboratory, which carries out policy-led research in spatial science and public health. His research is generally applied and carried out with end users with a strong community engagement focus. He is often invited to deliver public talks and is a teaching award winner. He is seconded two days a week to the New Zealand Ministry of Transport as the chief science advisor, where he advises them on the evidence base of government policy.
