What’s new in contemporary camera culture?

Photography and image-making have changed over the past five years, with many photographers favoring either the anti-aesthetic culture of ‘bad photography’ or using technology to create hyper-real worlds. How can brands speak to people as they seek transparency around the images they consume?

Philippa Kelly

Philippa Kelly is a freelance journalist based in London. She holds an undergraduate degree in press and editorial photography from Falmouth University and an MA in magazine journalism from City, University of London. Philippa was editor of the 2022 edition of XCity magazine and is now a staff writer at the British Journal of Photography.

Quetzal Maucci

Quetzal Maucci is a professor of photography at Kingston University. Originally from San Francisco with South American roots, her teaching, research, and professional practice seek to challenge systemic values and social constructs. Her ongoing personal project, Children of Immigrants, was published in The New York Times and explores the community that is labelled ‘children of immigrants’ in the US and UK.

Lallie Doyle

Lallie Doyle is a freelance writer and director based in London. Doyle started her career working for Nick Knight at SHOWstudio, assisting on global campaigns and music videos for clients including Kanye West, Kate Moss, and Gareth Pugh. Moving next to Berlin, Doyle joined the team on season three of Netflix’s Dark. After this, she moved to RadicalMedia as a development producer and script editor working across scripted and unscripted films, TV shows, and branded content, before going freelance in 2022.
