2023 Expert Outlook on Getting Around

How are commuters navigating the return to in-person work? What impact will micromobility have on urban travel? Will EVs break out of their luxury bubble? In this part of the 2023 Expert Outlook, we speak to three experts about how people are changing the way they get from A to B.

Robin Chase

Robin Chase is the co-founder and former CEO of Zipcar, the largest car-sharing company in the world. Her current passion is working with cities to maximise the transformation possible with the introduction of self-driving cars.

John Surico

John Surico writes about our changing cities. He is a professor and programme coordinator at New York University's Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute, where he teaches urban-focused reporting. He is the Scholar-in-Residence at the Central Park Conservancy's Institute for Urban Parks, where he provides research and analysis for urban spaces around the US. His work has been published in The New York Times, The Guardian, Bloomberg CityLab, and elsewhere. He is also a local community organizer working to create more equitable open space in Western Queens.

Oded Cats

Dr. Oded Cats is an associate professor in the Department of Transport & Planning at Delft University of Technology. He is the co-director of the Smart Public Transport Lab and the co-founder of the CiTyAI lab.

Nicolas Lopez

Nicolas Lopez is a New York-based behavioural analyst at Canvas8. He holds a degree in political science from Columbia University. His research is driven by the relationship between the political, material, and cultural spheres. Outside of work, he can be found writing fiction and riding his bike with no hands.
