Despite the growing demands presented by Britain’s ageing population – with the number of over-65s increasing by 11% between 2001 and 2011 – just 3.2% of elderly people live in a care home. [1] Dissatisfied with the lack of appealing options, the Older Women’s Co-Housing (OWCH) group has pioneered a scheme to develop community housing for female over-50s, addressing one of main issues of old age – loneliness.
