While a few kind words can brighten anyone’s day, we often don’t take the time to tell people. Canvas8 spoke to Dr. Vanessa K. Bohns, an associate professor at Cornell University, to understand why we underestimate the power of compliments and why giving them can feel uncomfortable.

Dr. Vanessa K. Bohns is an associate professor at Cornell University’s Department of Organizational Behavior. She holds a PhD in social psychology from Columbia University and an AB in psychology from Brown University. Her research focuses on social influence and the psychology of compliance and consent. Her forthcoming book, You Have More Influence Than You Think, will be published by W. W. Norton in Fall 2021.
