2020 Expert Outlook on Eating and Drinking

Why are people knocking back RTD cocktails? How are eco concerns impacting consumption habits? And what role will tech play in shaping the future of food? In this part of the 2020 Expert Outlook, we speak to three experts about how inclusivity and sustainability are affecting eating and drinking.

Jacopo Mazzeo

Dr. Jacopo Mazzeo is a freelance wine and drinks journalist and consultant.
He regularly contributes to leading trade and consumer publications including Wine Enthusiast, Whisky Magazine, Decanter, Meininger, Club Oenologique, Harper's, Pix Wine, and Good Beer Hunting. He consults on consumer trends and marketing strategy and offers copywriting services to drinks firms and agencies. Jacopo is a former sommelier, he judges international wine, beer, and spirits competitions, and sat twice on the board of directors of the British Guild of Beer Writers. Before he embraced full-time journalism, he studied musicology at the University of Bologna and took a PhD at the University of Southampton.

Dr. Signe Rousseau

Dr. Signe Rousseau is a lecturer at the University of Cape Town. She is the author of Food Media: Celebrity Chefs and the Politics of Everyday Interference and Food and Social Media: You Are What You Tweet. She is also co-chair of Gastronomica: The Journal for Food Studies (University of California Press).

Dana Cowin

Dana Cowin was the editor-in-chief at Food & Wine for 20 years. She now works as a culinary consultant and hosts the Speaking Broadly podcast.

Margot Peppers

Margot Peppers is the insights editor at Canvas8, which specialises in behavioural insights and consumer research. Her background is in journalism and copywriting, and she's written for publications and brands in the US and UK. Outside of work you'll find her either writing poetry, spoiling her cat, or playing board games like there's no tomorrow.
