How are Britons switching up their drinking habits?

Britain’s drinking culture is transforming as the stigma surrounding alcohol abstinence fades and the price of a pint climbs ever higher. What are teetotallers and moderate drinkers choosing to consume in social situations? And how are pubs and bars keeping punters coming back?

Jacopo Mazzeo

Dr. Jacopo Mazzeo is a freelance wine and drinks journalist and consultant.
He regularly contributes to leading trade and consumer publications including Wine Enthusiast, Whisky Magazine, Decanter, Meininger, Club Oenologique, Harper's, Pix Wine, and Good Beer Hunting. He consults on consumer trends and marketing strategy and offers copywriting services to drinks firms and agencies. Jacopo is a former sommelier, he judges international wine, beer, and spirits competitions, and sat twice on the board of directors of the British Guild of Beer Writers. Before he embraced full-time journalism, he studied musicology at the University of Bologna and took a PhD at the University of Southampton.

Jimmy Dance

Jimmy Dance is the founder and chief creative officer of Loading Bars. He graduated from Falmouth in Cornwall with a degree in film and then worked as a chef before setting up Loading in 2010, having been inspired by gaming bars in Tokyo.

Jo Peters spent 20 years in international agencies working for brands such as Nike and Playstation. Having set up her trend consultancy, Jo volunteered with Samaritans. In 2020, she trained as a coach with the Co-Active Training Institute, helping clients make positive changes in their professional and personal lives. Jo recently studied with Climate Change Coaches, partnering with those wanting to take action on this vital systemic issue. Together with writing on consumer trends and design, Jo loves the big outdoors, from the beach in Shoreham-by-Sea where she lives to MTB on the South Downs.
