But with the likes of Songkick and Spotify covering these roles in 2015, NME has decided to go free to boost circulation and stave off irrelevance. Can it appeal to a new generation of musos?

A subscription to NME was once a must-have for British music lovers. For those brought up in the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s, it was the place to find out which albums to buy, and see which gigs to attend. The magazine’s skill in discovering new music and high-quality editorial positioned it as a leading voice in the punk movement of the ‘70s and Britpop of the ‘90s.
