93% of Dutch youths are potential pirates

The Dutch current affairs show EénVandaag  has conducted research among 3,500 youngsters in the country, aged 12-24, on their downloading habits.

A staggering 93% admitted to downloading music, movies and games from the Internet, while only 5% of this group used subscription or paid services like iTunes.

The research was conducted in response to the world’s largest torrent indexer Mininova’s, upcoming anti-piracy case against heavy-handed Dutch watchdog BREIN. When asked about the case only 15% of respondents thought BREIN would win, 39% didn’t know enough about it to form an opinion, and unsurprisingly given the high rate of those admitting to downloading, 45% thought Mininova would win.
