Friendship and the mechanisms of community cohesion
Robin Dunbar's scientific expertise focuses on human behaviour and the mechanisms used to build communities. He has acted as a consultant on advertising campaigns for Pernod-Rickard, Philadelphia Cheese, Fisherman's Friends, Unilever, Hewlett Packard, and Thomas Fudge, as well as on-screen talent in Guinness and Samsung adverts. In addition to his many scientific books and journal articles, he has written a dozen popular science books and over 100 pieces of science journalism for leading newspapers and magazines. He's famous for discovering Dunbar's Number – the limit on the number of relationships we can manage. He's an elected member of the national academies of the UK, Finland and Hungary.
