Medical sociologist and ethnographer on food, gender/sexuality, and animals
Lisa Jean Moore is a medical sociologist and SUNY distinguished professor at Purchase College. Her expertise spans medicine, science, and technology studies, feminist studies, animal studies, food studies, and critical body studies. A public health degree enhances her ability to translate concepts in gender, race, sexuality, and animal studies to the health sciences. Her books include Buzz: Urban Beekeeping and the Power of the Bee, Catch and Release: The Enduring, yet Vulnerable, Horseshoe Crab, and Our Transgenic Future, which investigates the creation of spider goats, a genetically modified goat lactating spider silk.
