Everywhere shopping: Click & Collect delivers

Click & Collect services enable goods to be ordered over the Internet and then collected by the customer in-store

With informed shoppers demanding more choice and less hassle, new imperatives are emerging for retailers. Many are fragmenting into access points or experiential hubs in order to offer the best of online, offline and mobile.
The advent of the Internet as a shopping channel initially created the belief that it would sound the death knell for shopping on the high street. But over time, there has been a realisation that consumers have a preference for buying across multiple channels – mixing the store with online and mobile.
This has manifested itself most pronouncedly in the meteoric rise of Click & Collect (C&C) services that enable goods to be ordered over the Internet and then collected by the customer in-store. As of July 2012, over 85% of people in UK towns were within a mile of a Collect+ shop, with over 4,700 nationwide. [1] Its popularity would seem to prove the claim made by Mark Lewis, CEO of Collect+, that “E-commerce is maturing, and now the fight for winning or losing customers is based around deliveries and returns”.
