    Scope
The Unconsumption project is a web-based initiative which questions the  nature of our relationship with consumerism. Co-founder Rob Walker coined the term in 2006 to mean 'the art and science of getting rid of things' , but it's since evolved into a philosophy for the whole consumption process. In place of today's frenzied consumer culture, Walker hopes to introduce the idea of 'mindful' consumption –  not an outright rejection of consumerism, but an awareness of and respect for the entire product lifecycle. Slow shopping, if you will. Walker says it's an experiment into whether “there's a way to borrow some of the tools of brand-making to advance an idea, but without actually creating products.” In this way, it's perhaps the ultimate lifestyle brand – all lifestyle, no products.
