Young non-drinkers
- 13/02/2012

Why do some young people reach for non-alcoholic drinks on a night out?
FreddieBrown, Creative commons (2012) ©A recently published New York Times article claims that today’s youth are more conservative than their parents’ generation, with the use of alcohol, tobacco and illegal drugs significantly lower than it was 30 years ago. The appearance of alcohol abstinence initiatives such as Hello Sunday Morning also hints at a movement away from a culture of excess drinking; 2,400 people have volunteered for a 12 week alcohol detox since the site began in 2010.
Is youth culture becoming tamer, and have young people’s priorities really changed? Canvas8 talks to a group of non-drinking 20-26 year-olds to learn about their attitudes towards alcohol and the role it plays in their lives. -
