    Hit hard by the economic downturn, the US salon industry has lost custom from women who are cutting back on beauty treatments and opting for home-based DIY alternatives instead. This has led to a huge increase in the popularity of at-home beauty products, with retailers creating mini-DIY departments in stores. And when the economy improves, experts don’t expect women to rush back to their old ways.
