The global retail landscape has faced enormous challenges over the past year. Countless malls now stand vacant, properties on high streets are boarded up and there are chilling predictions of further difficulties set to play out during 2011. VAT rises and high levels of inflation mean that consumers are watching their pockets closely and will need to be persuaded more than ever to part with their pounds, dollars, Euros or Yen. Yet, despite this unfavourable economic climate, 2010 yielded remarkably innovative and creative retail initiatives that raise the bar in terms of design and customer service. It seems that smart retailers are truly upping their game to stay in the game – using new tools and channels to capture wider consumer audiences and create memorability, streamlining their offers to create seamless interactions and genuinely placing the customer’s best interests at the heart of the experience.
Executive editor at trend forecasting consultancy GDR Creative Intelligence Mandy Saven presents a shortlist of outstanding retail initiatives that resonated with GDR’s brand clients during 2010, and details why these concepts are worth keeping on the radar during 2011. -
