    Scope
    As agricultural distribution channels receive widespread attention as major components of climate change, systemic reform is becoming painfully essential. However, since government response is slow, the movement toward ‘greener’ growing practices is becoming something of a populist movement among many industrialised nations, and Japan is no exception.

    With so little arable land available, Japan is the least self-sufficient grower of food among developed nations, importing as much as 60% of its supply yearly (1). Many commercial enterprises have launched in response to growing consumer anxiety in this famously insular country. More significant is that, beyond hobby farming on city allotments such as Agris Seijo, young people are returning to agriculture as a viable career choice, spurred on by cool cultural products and smart government initiatives.
