    Scope
    In Dubai, consumption of luxury goods is two to three times the global average (1). As a result, luxury brands and their midmarket equivalents now treat Dubai and the UAE as the gateway to a wider Middle Eastern market – a market which luxury brands have made their second biggest priority after China (2).

    However, although ruled by the UAE, Dubai’s expatriate population makes up over 85% of the total (3) - and the assumption that this area is brimming with wealthy Arabs is therefore misguided, as is the belief that Dubai represents the desires of the Middle East as a whole.

    To try and understand how Middle Eastern markets will develop we focus on the native population of Dubai and the UAE and identify a powerful, emerging female consumer group.
